About Greenlines DP

Greenlines DP is a fast hydrofoil and catamaran operator providing scheduled passenger river-to-sea transit in southern Vietnam. Registered on October 28, 2005 under the corporate entity Greenlines DP Technology Co., Ltd (Cong ty TNHH Cong nghe Xanh DP) and led by Tran Song Hai, the company launched passenger ferry operations on April 30, 2016. Headquartered at 2 Ngo Duc Ke Street in Sai Gon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, the operator focuses on high speed passenger transportation between the metropolis and the coastal resort city of Vung Tau.

The carrier operates 1 primary commercial route between Pier No. 4 on the Bach Dang riverfront in central Ho Chi Minh City and Ho May Pier in Vung Tau. Boarding opposite Ham Nghi Street allows travelers to bypass highway congestion between Ho Chi Minh City and the coast. The scenic 2-hour voyage covers 85 km through the calm waterways of the Saigon River, Soai Rap River, and Can Gio mangrove channels before crossing Can Gio Bay.

Greenlines DP Fleet

The Greenlines DP passenger fleet comprises 11 vessels, featuring twin-hull hydrofoil catamaran craft designed for rapid river navigation and protected coastal crossings. Eight catamarans are assigned to the Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau route, offering passenger capacities ranging from 50 to 150 seats with cruising speeds of 28 knots.

Greenlines DP C3, C4, C5 Hydrofoil catamaran 50 seats 28 knots Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau No No
Greenlines DP C8 Hydrofoil catamaran 132 seats 28 knots Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau No No
Greenlines DP C9 Hydrofoil catamaran 150 seats 28 knots Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau No No
Greenlines DP E10 Hydrofoil catamaran 145 seats 28 knots Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau No No

The other three vessels in the fleet, the 60-seat Greenlines A1 and the 15-seat river craft RX1 and RX2, do not sail this route. The operator most frequently deploys K-class catamarans K6 and K7, each carrying 96 passengers. The operator assigns the vessel for each departure, so passengers book a departure time and are assigned seats rather than selecting a specific vessel during reservation.

Routes Operated by Greenlines DP

Greenlines DP operates 1 scheduled passenger waterway route linking Ho Chi Minh City with Vung Tau across an 85 km transit corridor.

Route Terminals Crossing time Departures Book
Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau Pier No. 4 (Bach Dang riverfront) to Ho May Pier 2 hours 2 to 6 daily sailings Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau ferry

The crossing covers 46 nautical miles in two segments. A 39.4 nautical mile river leg runs along the Saigon River past Phu My Bridge, the Cat Lai industrial zone and Nha Be, then through the Soai Rap estuary and Can Gio waterways. A 6.5 nautical mile open-water leg crosses Can Gio Bay into Ho May Pier at Bai Dau. Because 73 km of the 85 km course stays inside calm river channels and only the final 12 km crosses the bay in moderate swell, the twin-hull hydrofoil ride causes minimal motion sickness for most passengers.

Weekday sailings between Monday and Friday operate with two daily departures in each direction. Ferries depart Pier No. 4 in Ho Chi Minh City at 09:00 and 12:00, while return services depart Ho May Pier in Vung Tau at 12:00 and 15:00. On Saturdays and Sundays, the operator adds afternoon departures, scheduling outbound trips from Ho Chi Minh City at 09:00, 12:00 and 14:00, and return trips from Vung Tau at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00.

During peak travel seasons including summer from June to August, Tet and public holidays such as Reunification Day on April 30 and National Day on September 2, Greenlines DP adds morning departures at 08:00 and 10:00, expanding operations to five or six daily crossings in each direction. Book 3 to 5 days ahead for these dates. During the wind season from October to February, coastal swell and storms can cause schedule adjustments. The total travel time is 2 hours under standard river and sea conditions.

Travel Tips for Greenlines DP Passengers

  • Choosing the ferry or a coach: The ferry completes the crossing in 2 hours from pier to pier. Express buses and limousines take 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes under clear conditions, but weekend traffic on the Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh to Dau Giay Expressway and National Route 51 adds delays. Travelers bringing a motorbike must use road transport.
  • Check-in and arrival time: Arrive at the boarding pier 30 to 45 minutes before departure.
  • Identification documents: Vietnamese passengers can use VNeID or an original citizen identification card. International travelers must present an original valid passport and Vietnam visa. Children under 14 require an original birth certificate.
  • Luggage limits and prohibited items: Each ticket holder is permitted up to 20 kg of free luggage. Excess baggage is weighed and charged at the pier. Explosives, flammable substances, toxic chemicals, weapons and livestock or poultry are prohibited on board.
  • No vehicle transport: Greenlines DP vessels are passenger-only. The operator does not transport motorbikes or cars.
  • Cancellations and changes: Canceling or changing a ticket costs 30% when requested at least 24 hours before departure. Requests within 24 hours, on weekends, on public holidays or Tet, or when a sailing has fewer than five tickets remaining are not eligible for refund or exchange. If Greenlines DP cancels a sailing for weather or safety reasons, passengers receive a 100% refund or a free change to the nearest available departure.
  • Ho Chi Minh City pier access: Boarding takes place at Pier No. 4 on the Bach Dang riverfront, opposite Ham Nghi Street and 50 meters from Thu Ngu Flagpole, near 10B Ton Duc Thang Street in Sai Gon Ward. Greenlines DP has boarded here since August 28, 2025, about 400 m from the former terminal. The pier is about 0.5 km from the Saigon Opera House, 0.8 km from Ben Thanh Market, 1.2 to 1.5 km from Ba Son Metro Station and 8 km from Tan Son Nhat Airport. The pier has a waiting hall and restrooms but no parking for ferry passengers, and the lot inside the Bach Dang Waterbus station serves Waterbus riders only. Passengers traveling by private vehicle can use 24-hour paid parking nearby at 01 Ham Nghi Street or inside Bitexco Financial Tower at 2 Hai Trieu Street.
  • Vung Tau pier facilities and connections: Ferries arrive at Ho May Pier at 1A Tran Phu Street in Bai Dau, beneath the Ho May Park cable car station rather than at Front Beach. The terminal complex features a ticket counter, a sea-view waiting lounge, restrooms, on-site car and motorbike parking, In The Sea Restaurant and Coffee, Hon Ru Ri Restaurant next door, and waiting XanhSM taxis and electric shuttle vehicles. White Palace is 500 meters away, about 7 minutes on foot, and Back Beach is 3.3 km away, 8 to 10 minutes by XanhSM electric car for 55,000 to 60,000 VND.
  • Continuing to Con Dao: Ho May Pier is 1.9 km, about 4 minutes by taxi, from Cau Da Port, where Phu Quoc Express sails the Vung Tau to Con Dao ferry on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 07:30 in about 3 hours 30 minutes, so travelers from Ho Chi Minh City stay one night in Vung Tau. Phu Quoc Express suspended the Vung Tau to Con Dao route on August 1, 2026, and expects to resume service in January 2027.
