About Hoa Binh Shipping

Hoa Binh Shipping Corporation (Cong ty Co phan Van tai bien Hoa Binh) received its business license on February 7, 2017 and is headquartered at 71 Tran Hung Dao Street in Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province. Its two vessels entered service in July 2018. They are 47.6 m long, have a 90-degree bow built to handle waves of level 7 to 8, and carry the VIP class in a private compartment with a restroom.

Hoa Binh Shipping boards at Pier 3 at Rach Gia Port, which also hosts Lightning 68 while Superdong boards at Pier 1. Its ferries sail to Hon Son Island and Nam Du Island. Four points set it apart on the Rach Gia island routes:

  • Only VIP cabin to Nam Du: On the 2 hour 30 minute crossing to Nam Du, Superdong sells Economy only, while Hoa Binh Shipping adds a separate 32-seat VIP cabin with its own restroom.
  • Higher free luggage allowance: Hoa Binh Shipping includes 20 kg of free luggage per passenger, double the 10 kg on Superdong.
  • Afternoon return from Nam Du: Hoa Binh Shipping leaves Nam Du at 13:15, which gives more midday hours on the island than the 11:00 Superdong departure.
  • Lower motorbike freight to Hon Son: Carrying a motorbike from Rach Gia to Hon Son costs 100,000 to 130,000 VND on Hoa Binh Shipping, compared with 200,000 to 350,000 VND on Superdong.

Travel Tips for Hoa Binh Shipping Passengers

  • Arrive at Rach Gia Port 30 to 45 minutes before departure with an original citizen ID card, VNeID or passport, and bring a birth certificate for children.
  • Hoa Binh Shipping accepts motorbikes only from Rach Gia, not from Hon Son or Nam Du. Book the bike 3 to 5 days ahead and drain most or all of the fuel before boarding.
  • Hoa Binh Shipping has no ticket counter at Bai Nha Port on Hon Son, and Nam Du Port has no waiting hall or ticket counter, so buy your e-ticket in advance. Cafes near the pier on Nam Du serve as a waiting place.
  • Each passenger may bring 20 kg of luggage free, and excess weight is weighed and charged on board.
  • Canceling a ticket costs 30% when requested at least 24 hours before departure. There is no refund or change on weekends, holidays or Tet, or when a sailing is full or has fewer than five tickets remaining. Name changes are not allowed.
  • If Hoa Binh Shipping cancels a sailing for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a free change to the nearest sailing.
  • The sea is calmest from December to April. From October to February the wind season brings larger swells, which affect the 57 nautical mile Nam Du crossing more than the closer Hon Son route. Book 7 to 14 days ahead for the summer peak from June to August and for public holidays.
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, choose a middle seat on the lower deck, around rows 10 to 15, or step out onto the open deck for fresh air.
